Poetry

We are going to finish our poetry unit tomorrow.  Today we read a poem about green beans. After that we read a poem about a food we hate and a food we love. The kids wrote their poem onto a plate and then underneath, they illustrated their food.  Here are a few pictures of the poems/plates.

End Of The Year Activities and the Home Stretch!

Our 3rd, 4th and 5th grades are involved in state testing this week.  So, the K, 1 and 2's have to be very quiet and carry on!  What is one to do with all of this time?  Well, my friend who teaches 1st grade asked if her class could come visit my class and have the kids work together on some things.  Today we worked on a math memory book.  My kids LOVED helping the 1st graders and the 1st graders LOVED being in a second grade room.  Here are a few pictures.

The first graders are coming back tomorrow and we will play a math word problem Scoot game.   They are looking forward to it!

So, only 7 1/2 days left!  If you are looking for some great things to do during this end of the year time, pull another class in with you and do some partner work.  The kids love it!
Hang in there friends!  Summer is almost here!
Tell me some things you do at the end of the year! I would love to hear from you!

Summer Literacy Centers and Poetry

I'm sure everyone is up to their eyeballs in testing!  We are at my school and will finish next week. In the meantime, we are having fun in my room with my poetry unit  I used a cute "Sandwich Simile" craftivity from Teacher's Clubhouse.  You can see it in their Teacher's Pay Teachers store by clicking here!  Here are some pictures of our "Simile Sandwiches.

They had a great time making these!    We are going to make the poetry pops tomorrow from the same unit.

It's almost Friday...and it's almost summer! Not much longer! What are you all doing in your room to finish up the year?

Summer Math Centers and a Summer Countdown!

We are on the countdown in my room.  We are down to 13 1/2 days! This week in math centers I have my Summer Math Centers Unit.  In one center, students are skip counting.  They choose a number card and then a different card that tells them to skip count by 5's, 10's or 100's. Then they write the next 5 numbers on their paper.  Here is a picture of the skip counting activity.

The good thing about this center is that you can use it over and over because they will draw a new combination of the number and what they skip count by each time they play. AND, it is summer themed which is great!

The next center was 3 digit addition with and without regrouping.  Students wrote the problem on their paper, solved and then matched the answer card to the problem......summer themed!

The last center is a summer themed word problem activity.  Students have to write the equation with a symbol, solve and then match the word problem to the answer card....Summer themed!!!!!!

This unit has 5 math centers in all. Besides the skip counting, 3 digit addition and word problems, there is a center on money and one on 3 digit subtraction. I have summer themed reading centers too.  You can see both sets of centers in my TPT store.  Click the link here for the math centers

So if you are ready to count down the days, like we all are, you can make my Sunny Summer Countdown.   He is cute and we all get excited as the countdown chain gets shorter and shorter!

If you want to see the file, it's in my TPT store. Click the link here!

I'll show you the summer literacy centers tomorrow.  What do you all do to count down the days until summer? Leave me some feedback!
