Back to School Memory Book

It seems to me that every year, I contemplate what I could do with this brand new class of students.  I don't know these kids yet and they don't know me.  We need to be engaged and do some fun things while we are learning how to be in second grade.  So, that calls for something not too hard and not too easy, but something that is still meaningful.  I've written a Back to School Memory book that I am going to use this year with my students.  There are 10 pages for students to complete so I am planning on doing one page each day for the first two weeks of school.  We can come together as a class when everyone finishes and share the page for the day.  This will be a great way to get to know each other! It is also a great book to have out at Open House.  Our school always has one in September.   Here is a look at the unit.
This is called "Super Sweet Memory Book" and is cupcake themed. There are cover pages for Kindergarten, First Grade and Second Grade. You can purchase the unit in my Teachers Pay Teachers store by clicking here!  This would be great morning work too!  I hope you are all enjoying the summer!

Back to School Math

I just finished a math unit that I'm using for the first ten days of school.  I wrote it to review all of the major common core math concepts that students learned in first grade.  It is a complete unit with lesson plans, student class work, homework, quizzes and games.  I've attached a few pages for you for free.  If you want the free stuff, click HERE!  This unit is 76 pages long.  Here is a look at what you get:

Common Core Math and a Freebie!

The beginning of school will be here before we know it!  I want to have everything ready for those first few weeks.  We all know how hectic it is...until...oh, October!  I just finished a unit that teaches Second Grade Common Core Math Standards 2. NBT. 1 and 3.  These standards cover groups of 10 to make 100, numbers to 1000, place value and writing numbers in standard form, word form, by drawing base 10 blocks and also expanded form.  This unit has almost everything you need to teach these standards.  In this 100 page unit, you will find lesson plans for 15 days, student class work, homework, quizzes, games and a project.  I have attached one of the games for you for free!  This game can be used whole group or in centers.  Each student gets a card and students try to find their match.  Students are matching number words with base 10 blocks.  This game could easily be a math center as well. To get your free copy of this game, click HERE!
Here is a sneak peek at some of the pages. I used some really cute clown clip art from Scrappin Doodles.

If you want to see the entire unit, you can go to my Teacher's Pay Teachers Store by clicking HERE!
So, relax and enjoy the remaining weeks of summer!  I know I am!

Morning Work for August Freebie!

Hello Friends!  I've had a little break and now I'm back working on stuff for next school year.  I finished Morning Work for August and Morning Work for September. I know, it's funny to hear "Morning Work for August" but it will be here before we know it!   I decided to make my morning work a mix of math and reading skills.  I only have about 20 minutes for morning work so I didn't want anything too long so that the kids could get it finished.  I wrote the unit so that there are four days of practice and the fifth day is a quiz.  As the year goes on and the kids work a little faster, I'm going to add more to the morning work.  I plan to write morning work for each school month.  It is written so that you can copy it as a book.  I posted the first week of August Morning Work here for you for FREE!  If you want to view it, click here!  This unit contains 3 weeks of morning work.  You can view the entire unit  in my Teacher's Pay Teacher's store by clicking here!   If you want to see the September unit, click here!  I hope you are all relaxing and resting up for August!  Please leave me some feedback and let me know how you like the morning work!

Poetry

We are going to finish our poetry unit tomorrow.  Today we read a poem about green beans. After that we read a poem about a food we hate and a food we love. The kids wrote their poem onto a plate and then underneath, they illustrated their food.  Here are a few pictures of the poems/plates.

End Of The Year Activities and the Home Stretch!

Our 3rd, 4th and 5th grades are involved in state testing this week.  So, the K, 1 and 2's have to be very quiet and carry on!  What is one to do with all of this time?  Well, my friend who teaches 1st grade asked if her class could come visit my class and have the kids work together on some things.  Today we worked on a math memory book.  My kids LOVED helping the 1st graders and the 1st graders LOVED being in a second grade room.  Here are a few pictures.

The first graders are coming back tomorrow and we will play a math word problem Scoot game.   They are looking forward to it!

So, only 7 1/2 days left!  If you are looking for some great things to do during this end of the year time, pull another class in with you and do some partner work.  The kids love it!
Hang in there friends!  Summer is almost here!
Tell me some things you do at the end of the year! I would love to hear from you!
